Furnace Removal & Replacement FAQs

Why I Should Consider Replacing an Old / Inefficient Furnace?

To save money, lower your carbon footprint, lower noise levels, and have a more reliable and dependable system.

What Furnace Brands Does Highwood Recommend and Why?

We highly recommend Trane, American Standard, and York Brand Products. These systems have proven very reliable and durable in the many decades we have been installing them.

What Are the Costs Associated with Furnace Replacement?

The cost related to replacing a furnace has many variables. The choice of manufacturer, fuel type, building or home size, and installation modifications all contribute to the overall cost. This could range from $3,500.00 to $8,000.00+.

What Size or Capacity Furnace Do I Need For My Home or Business?

This question can be answered by an HVAC contractor who takes the necessary time to analyze your home needs for heating. A heat loss calculation is often done to determine the appropriate size or BTU requirement for each building. It is essential not to oversize your system for efficiency and long-term durability.

It is typical in New England for a home or building to need between 15 and 30 BTUs per square foot to heat that space to 70 degrees indoor at a 5 degree outdoor temperature.

Would a High Efficiency Heat Pump System Work Well in Replacement of my Fossil Fuel System?

Yes, new inverter driven, modulating heat pumps are suited extremely well for colder climates and often take the replacement of a fossil fuel system to provide comfort for your home in the cold months.

Will a New Heating System Add Value to my Home Now or in the Future for Resale?

The short answer is yes, an old worn-out system in a home for sale will typically lower the value of that home and compensation to the new buyers is typical.
